While I was surfing in the net, I found a page from Adobe called kuler which carries a collection of color palettes made by users. Some are beautiful, and if you have no idea of what colors utilize on your website/application, this is a good place to start.
If you use a single color scheme will not only look better, also can turn your app in a success.
It is also interesting to known something about the color psychology, so you can choose the best color scheme for your web/app. The colors awaken in people specific emotional responses.
As a brief summary, I can say the following (I didn't invent, I read about it):
- Warm colors (red, orange, yellow) are used to attract attention (hence are widely used in advertising). Stimulates circulation and nervous system.
- Cool colors (blue, violet, green) are the opposite of the warm colors. Soothed and calm.
- Light colors (pink, blue, beige) help defuse. Imparts softness and fluidity.
- Dark colors (the dark ones) are space reducers, doing everything seem smaller. They're serious and focused.
Next, I leave a quickly summarize of each color "base" with their respective effects:
- White: Empowered the neighbor colors. Transmits peace, happiness, innocence, purity.
- Gray: Expresses doubt, indecision, lack of energy, sadness. However, if it's used in metallic shades, gives a sense of strength and luxury.
- Black: Transmit silence, mystery, and even evil or impurity. It gives a certain elegance when used in bright tones.
- Red: Brings vitality, passion, energy, aggressiveness, sensuality, sexuality.
- Orange: Expresses warmth, stimulation, energy, positivism.
- Yellow: Sends gaiety, excitement, impulsion.
- Brown: Transmits severity, comfort, and balance.
- Green: It is color of nature. Convey calmness, tranquility, and renewal.
- Blue: Expresses harmony, friendship, loyalty, serenity.
- Violet: Transmits temperance, insight, and reflection. A color of mystic and melancholy.
Color can become the key to the web or application to do, even if you are not aware of it. Choose wisely.
Colorful greetings.
