In The Top Of The World

Friday! Yeah!
Tonight we're going to a party!!! Well, yes, I'm going out, because today it's a friend's birthday. I'll leave you with this beauty landscape and with a japanse song, singed in english.
Lately Early :: HDR
"Lately early", taken in St. James (Missouri) by Jon.B. Very good one I thought. Now to the video part:

It's seems that Shonen Knife means "Boy Knife", by the way. It's a group from Osaka (Japan), dedicated to the pop-punk genre. "Top of the World" can be the best song of their tribute album "If I were a Carpenter" (honestly I don't hear the entire album, but for the comments).
I wish you a very good and energic weekend!

People are Awesome

I steal the title of one of the videos to put it on the title entry, because it's a very awesome quote. Two quick videos, just to feel good. I don't know, but works for me.

If you kept wanting more, look related. Indeed, the second video was the one who made me discover the Gorillaz's song Melancholy Hill.
Awesome greetings.

Colemak or Dvorak? Something better than QWERTY is welcome

I must say sorry by leave the blog alone the past weeks, but it's not as easy as I thought keep it updated, because life keeps running and sometimes I forget to go back.
But well, talking about interesting things this week I began to question the QWERTY keyboard layout, after a class in university. Of course I already knew from many years another keyboard layout (Dvorak) by a friend (Esteban Ordano), but I had never considered using it.
Finally, I don't choosed it, but also not choosed QWERTY, simply I went to Colemak. I guess everyone has their reasons for choosing each other, but my only thought few days ago was to leave the standard distribution.
But may be you can ask "what's wrong with QWERTY?" Well, as I have understood, was designed for people to write slow and avoid typewriters lock up by having their hammers hitting by themselves.
Another curious thing that I encountered, you can write perfectly "typewriter" in QWERTY without moving the hand of top row (try it :P). I don't remember well because it was, but was somewhat curious.
Colemak Keyboard Layout
Colemak I decided to go by, because it maintains a certain essence of QWERTY keyboard (as it relates to hotkeys, ctrl + [cxzvqwa] stay equal) but doing a great improve. But I'm kind of sad that there's not an optimized version for Spanish :( (as Dvorak), but hey, better than the standard is.
Over time I will tell you of my progress.
Greetings or Dpffgukdr in Colemak.

Ubuntu 11.10, more Desks and more settings for Compiz

A quick entry about Ubuntu 11.10. A friend (Esteban Filardi) told me a couple of things that maybe you will consider interesting.
Put in your terminal:
  • gconftool-2 --type=int --set /apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/vsize X
  • gconftool-2 --type=int --set /apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/hsize X
Where X is the number of desks. You can configure on Unity how many desktops do you want (by default, 2x2). It's interesting, because you can increase this number both horizontal (hsize) and vertical (vsize).
Nine Desktops
And with:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
You can configure some useful things of Compiz.

Well that's all.
Greetings, and happy mother's day.
PS: Be careful, Compiz Settings can crash your linux :p.

Ubuntu 11.10 Wallpaper Changer

Finally I'll post some programming. It turns out that I was searching for my Ubuntu 11.10 to have a wallpaper changer, and I wondered how Ubuntu make the default "automatic wallpaper changes" (look at the image below, also, you'll need to select the picture with the clock to make this work [thanks Labago]):

Well, turns out there's a file in /usr/share/backgrounds/contest called 'background-1.xml', which contains all the wallpapers, the times shown -static time-, and the transition time. Well, I made a python application to modify it at will (it'll create a new file background-1.xml, you only need to replace the current with this one).

Who knows? Only Time

I love New Age music, and what is it New Age without Enya, the pretty girl below, whose real name is Eithne Patricia Ní Bhraonáín. Eithne is pronounced /enya/ (so is not a pseudonym, crazy huh?).
Enya Brennan
I must say she has a lot of great songs (such as very good albums too), but hey, she dedicated her entire life completed to music, and once she said (paraphrasing) 'music it's the only relevant to me'.
Being so beautiful and smart as she is, it's a shame that she don't has a lover, but if she prefers it that way, so be it. Careful, not much is known about her personal life (she hides it very well), so maybe there is something else in her life (yeiy for her).
So, this is the post of Friday -in a strange format-, with a wallpaper of Enya and one of her beautiful songs to enjoy, Only Time.

Only Time is the third song on the album "A Day Without Rain" (2000), which became a success. It was used on several occasions, as in comercials of the acclaimed series Friends, in the attacks of 9/11, and it reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 in 2001.
Greetings and who knows what will happen this weekend, only time knows.

The History of Digital Storage [InfoGraphic]

Well, I saw this infographic, and I put it here because I like it (click to enlarge):
Those times when was hard to save 2MB of memory, and that amount is now something that it's seem too light, and in the future, with Cloud services, it's looks like not limit more than the physic. In my life, I reach to know until floppy disk, and you?
Greetings from the Cloud.

Evolution with Google Calendar and Facebook Events

This is something that will be useful only to people who use Evolution (as I said at first, my second OS is Ubuntu).
The other day, while examining my desktop calendar, I wondered to see if I could somehow sync with Google Calendar, and not only I managed to do that, I also synchronized the calendar with Facebook Events.
Photo of my success:
As you'll know, I use Ubuntu in spanish of course.
By the way, the orange icons are Google Events and the blue ones are Facebook Events.
First things first...

The Hardest Part Is Letting Go

Oh my, this is my thirteenth entry. I'm so conform, and I want to thanks to the millions of people who saw my blog everyday. Well, perhaps I'm overacting, there're only two thousands of lectors, not more. Hmm, yes, I'm exagereting one more time, but, it's nice to think that possibility :P.
Yaiy, it's already friday. The week pass over me too fast, and I didn't had enough time to post everything that I wanted. Very well, soo, let see.. Ah, it's raining again over here, so you know whats that means... PARTY ALL NIGHT!!! Ehmm yes, I'm kind of crazy today, but anyway, let's go simply to the pictures (and the video, of course).
Picture:
Forest
A picture taken by Moyan Brenn (march, 2011), in Italy. A piece of forest to enjoy.
Video:

The Hardest Part was written by all the members of Coldplay (nice) for their third album, X&Y -that in my opinion it's a very good album (and Coldplay is a nice band to). I'll leave the lyrics of this song over here (and a video with lyrics if you want).
Have a beautiful weekend, enjoys life, you'll only lived once.
Greetings, and greetings to Barbara and Spencer.

Good Bye Steven Paul Jobs

Today, October 5 of 2011, a great person dies. He was an example of creativity, imagination and hard work. Goodbye Steve.
Sad greetings.

Try to Count to Ten

A little message to make us better:

Try counting to 10 before raise your voice, before attack or accusing. Counting to 10 helps to relax the heart, to find the true in yourself. Try counting to 10 before doing damage, before lie. Your anger reduces, do not be misled by your aggressiveness. Try counting to 10, up to 10 no more, before boast, before deny, before abandon.
It's the right lapse of time to take a choice that you'll never regret.

Greetings my friend.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Philip K. Dick
On Friday I managed to see Blade Runner, a film that I should see some time ago (and I had several opportunities to see it).
The film itself I found it delightful, especially the contrast between entirely futuristic machines (like flying cars) with computers "advanced for the eighties '" but old for our current point of view (you know, CRT monitors).
The point I want to emphasize is that once the film finished, I went to discover more about it (usually, whenever I finish a movie that touched me, I read about it on Wikipedia), and I found that it was based (loosely) on the novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? " by Philip K. Dick. Then I decided to see if I had the ebook, and it turns out that yes, I had it. So I started reading it. This was on Saturday.

I find something quite interesting in Google Docs, that I didn't know about it's existence :P.
From Docs you go to "Create", and choose the last option "From Template" (I don't know if that it's the exactly name, cause I've my Google in spanish :D).
Basically, will take you to the next link: Templates of Google Docs
And there are a LOT OF templates to choose, from documents to spreadsheet.
Enjoy :).
Greetings from BlogThis!
